Manchester United to make legend sweat
Manchester United news: Old Trafford club to make Ryan Giggs wait until the summer for talks
Manchester United will make Old Trafford legend Ryan Giggs sweat before discussing a new contract with him.
According to Goal.com, Manchester United officials are refusing to begin discussions with the 38-year-old until the end of the season.
Giggs’ one-year rolling deal comes to an end in June, but it has been customary up to now for the club to agree an extension with him before the end of the season.
While United only offer one-year deals to those of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad that are over 32, the report claims Giggs will now be made to sweat until the end of the season before finding out whether he has a future at the club.
Giggs, who is the most decorated player in Manchester United and British football history, signed the deal for this term in February and so the recent stance of Old Trafford officials will raise questions over whether this may be his last season as a Red Devil – something he publicly admitted recently.
Turning 39 next month, the Welshman has had to accept a less prominent role in the side as his years have advanced, but has still been able to make crucial contributions at times.
Despite his age, Giggs played the entire 120 minutes of Manchester United’s League Cup defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge midweek, scoring a consolation penalty in extra-time.
