Barcelona readying January move for Manchester United star

Barcelona reportedly want to sign Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic and are even considering a move in the January transfer window.

The Camp Nou club are struggling in defence this season, with manager Tito Vilanova regularly having to play two holding midfielders in central defence.

A serious problem with conceding goals has only been remedied by the sparkling form of their attackers, led by Lionel Messi.

According to, Vilanova has identified Vidic as the answer to Barcelona’s leaky defence and will attempt to try and prise him away from Sir Alex Ferguson in the winter window, though they expect any possible deal will not happen before the summer.

January might not be the ideal time for Barcelona to make their move, as the Manchester Untied manager recently revealed that his skipper would likely be out until Christmas after suffering a setback in his recovery from knee surgery.

Vidic will eventually have been missing from the Old Trafford first team for nearly three months, which will be the second time in as many seasons he has been a long-term absentee.

This chequered recent injury history could tempt United to accept an offer from the Catalan club, though Vidic is still considered one of the best defenders in the Premier League when fit.
