Real Madrid star's tweet sparks Mata and Silva speculation

Xabi Alonso has set Twitter tongues wagging by accidently tweeting a private message to his 3.4 million fans about a potential new signing at Real Madrid.

Alonso, who joined Madrid in 2009 from Liverpool, promptly deleted the message that has sparked intense debate over who it was intended for.

Posted on Saturday night in Spanish, Alonso wrote: “I will tell Mou [Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho] to consider you, and that way raise the standard of dressing-room”

Three possible intended recipients have emerged, with speculation suggesting the message could have been for either Athletic Bilbao forward Fernando Llorente, Manchester City playmaker David Silva or Chelsea’s Juan Mata according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish newspaper points out that in order to send a direct message Alonso needs to be ‘following’ the recipient, with Silva, Mata and Llorente on the list of 266 people whose tweets he recieves, along with the likes of Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun and Atletico Madrid’s Juanfran.

Silva joined Manchester City from Valencia in 2010 and has established himself as one of the finest players in the Premier League, helping the Citizens claim the Premier League title last season.

The Spaniard was linked with a move to the Bernebeu over the summer but penned a new five year deal with Manchester City in September.

Mata meanwhile has proved equally invaluable to Chelsea since joining from Los Che in 2011, and played his part in helping the Stamford Bridge-based club claim their first Champions League trophy last season.

Llorente has been linked with a move away from Bilbao having turned down the offer of a contract extension over the summer, however given Madrid’s strength in attack with Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain fighting for a starting spot, a move to the Bernabeu for the 27-year-old seems unlikely.
