Afternoon Report: November 5

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will demand answers from Andre Santos after the Brazilian left-back was seen to take the shirt of former Gunners captain Robin van Persie at half-time in the loss to Manchester United.

Away fans were incensed and commentators baffled as Santos appeared to request the shirt as they walked off the Old Trafford pitch – the situation was not helped by his abysmal performance.

United skipper on the day, Patrice Evra, claimed Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere deliberately tried to injure him in the challenge that saw the England international receive his second yellow card.

Evra also likened new signing Van Persie to former Manchester United striker and Holland international Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is reportedly happy to stay with West Brom until the end of the season when his loan deal expires.

Blues manager Roberto di Matteo had hinted at a recall for the 19-year-old Belgium international due to a lack of striking options, but Baggies boss Steve Clarke insisted Lukaku was content with staying.

Roberto Mancini has claimed his Manchester City side are not ready to win the Champions League, admitting the Citizens had underperformed this season.

The Italian demanded three good performances from City in their remaining group games as, having only collected a single point in the first three, their chances of getting out of the group are slim, even if they win them all.

Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas is sweating over his White Hart Lane future after the club stalling on offering him a new contract.

The 35-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will not discuss an extension until the summer.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed Luis Suarez is the Merseysiders’ answer to Lionel Messi.

The Uruguayan scored a sublime goal and was a constant threat in the Reds’ 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at Anfield on Sunday.
