Arsenal striker keen on Ligue 1 switch

Arsenal misfit Marouane Chamakh has admitted he may return to his former club Bordeaux because of a lack of first team opportunities with the Gunners.

The Moroccan international started his career at the Emirates Stadium well after securing a move from Ligue 1 in 2010, scoring ten goals in his first 22 games in north London.

However since then his form and first team chances have deteriorated and he scored just a four more goals in the next two years, two of which came in Arsenal’s 7-5 win over Reading last week.

Chamakh was linked with a move away from Arsenal over the summer but failed to find a new club, although he is expected to secure a route out of the Emirates Stadium when the winter window opens.

Speaking to French radio station RMC, Chamakh admitted to finding life at Arsenal tough at the moment, and opened the door to a potential return to Bordeaux.

“I am still asking the question of a departure or not, weighing up the pros and cons," he said.

"Bordeaux? In the summer, I didn't have any contact. During last winter, I had some. It could be a solution to come back.

"My priority is to remain in England, but I know if I would have to come back to France, it could only be to Bordeaux."

"If I make the decision to come back, it would be no trouble to me, but it is too early to talk about it,” he added.

The 28-year-old also revealed he expected to have more chances to prove his worth following the departure of Robin van Persie over the summer, but has seen first new signing Olivier Giroud, then Gervinho preferred to him in attack.

“After Robin van Persie left, I thought I'd play more,” he commented. “The competition is always a little hard in a club like that. I expected it. It's (up) to me to prove myself. But, in two, three months, if nothing changes, I must make a decision.

"With the departure of Robin, I'd say that I had a playing card. And if my playing time doesn't change, I'm not fooled, I'll go away."
