Liverpool are ready to renew their interest in Colombian star striker Jackoson Marinez in a bid to solve the forward shortage at Anfield, going directly in competition with Chelsea.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to find some quality support for Luis Suarez in the striking department and is looking to the Porto striker that Liverpool were linked with on many occasions during the summer, according to talkSPORT.
The report claims Rodgers has been keeping a close eye on Martinez’s progress since he joined Porto from Mexican side Jaguares, though Premier League rivals Chelsea have also been credited with an interest.
The northern Irishman is unlikely to have been put off by what he has seen, as the 26-year-old has scored 11 goals in 12 games this season, a better start to his career at Estadio da Dragao than Radamel Falcao, Hulk and Lisandro Lopez.
The report claims Rodgers is now ready to meet the buyout clause in his contract, which they state as £18.5million.
Liverpool’s top scorer this season is Suarez with ten goals, but the closest to him are Steven Gerrard, Nuri Sahin and Jonjo Shelvey, all on just three strikes.
Chelsea also have a lack of depth in the centre-forward position, as Fernando Torres is the only experienced striker at the club and his form has been suffering in recent weeks.
