Roberto Mancini endured a tumultuous evening at the Etihad Stadium Stadium last night that ended with two bust-ups, a similar amount of dropped points and ultimately the realisation that Manchester City are on the cusp of exiting the Champions League at the group stages for the second season running.
After their defeat in Amsterdam last month against Ajax a victory on home soil was imperative if Mancini's men wanted to make the knockout stages - and they couldn't have got off to a worse start.
Ajax captain Siem de Jong proved inspirational once more as he put his side 2-0 up inside 20 minutes, leaving City's chances of progressing hanging in the balance.
However an immediate response thanks to a sublime Yaya Toure goal and a second-half Sergio Aguero strike pulled them level, before the Argentine striker controversially had a late goal ruled out, prompting outrage from Mancini. From a dramatic night in Manchester, here are the best pictures from a night that left City's European dream hanging by a thread.
