Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fernandinho is hoping another good performance against Chelsea will lead to a Premier League transfer.
The Brazilian was impressive for Shakhtar Donetsk in their defeat of Roberto di Matteo’s side two weeks ago in Ukraine and he believes a repeat may help him achieve his ambition of getting a switch to England’s top flight.
Fernandinho scored the goal that made the difference in the 2-1 win over the Blues and made clear his ambitions of what he wants to achieve from his trip to London.
“If I had the opportunity to play in the Premier League I think that my qualities would improve even further,” he is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“I believe that the tactical roles of the players of the Premier League are very important, as well as its defensive responsibilities.
“However, these last years we have seen new, more aggressive players with very diverse styles, which make the games even more interesting.
“If I could combine all these roles, I could give considerable value to the Premier League.
“I like England a lot. It is a beautiful country and if I had the opportunity to live here, it would be very good for my family and me.”
The 27-year-old was speaking ahead of the clash at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, where Chelsea will be desperate to avenge the loss and take a step closer to qualification for the knockout stages.
Chelsea lie second in Group E after three games and their tally of four points is probably a bit lower than they expected they would have at this stage before the competition began.
The Ukrainians top the group thanks to victory in the Donbass Arena, though they traditionally do not travel well and a win for Di Matte’s side will take them to the top of the group on goal difference.
