Top five Champions League goals: November 6-7

Published 19 Comments

Celtic pulled off one of the most unlikely results in European football as they beat Barcelona 2-1 in the Champions League, capping a successful night for British teams in the competition.

Chelsea pulled off a late, late 3-2 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk at Stamford Bridge, while Manchester United came from 1-0 down to claim a 3-1 victory against Braga in Portugal, and secure safe passage to the knockout stages.

The previous evening Arsenal drew 2-2 with Schalke, with goals coming from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud, and Manchester City kept their faint hopes of qualification alive, when they rescued a point following a 2-2 draw with Ajax at the Etihad Stadium.

Elsewhere, last season's finalists Bayern Munich stunned Lille with a 6-1 victory at the Allianz Arena. Valencia netted four against BATE Borisov in the same group, while Juventus punished Nordsjaelland 4-0.

Wins for Galatasaray and Benfica also revived their hopes of qualification to the last-16, whereas competition debutants Malaga and Porto both clinched places in the next round, at the expense of AC Milan and Dynamo Kiev.

Real Madrid's late equaliser against Borussia Dortmund in Group D means the German champions must wait to seal their fate. Olympiakos moved to within a point of Arsenal after beating Montpellier, and Paris Saint-Germain beat Dinamo Zagreb 4-0.

And finally, Anderlecht earned their first Champions League home win in nine years with a 1-0 victory over Zenit St Petersburg.
