Arsenal start ‘keeper search

Published 10 Comments

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made a new goalkeeper his top transfer target for January, with Liverpool’s Pepe Reina and Swansea City star Michel Vorm on his list.

The Gunners threw away a 2-0 lead for the second time in a week against Fulham on Saturday and ‘keeper Vito Mannone was at fault for two of the three Arsenal conceded.

The Italian has been standing in for nearly two months due to an ankle injury to their regular number one, Wojciech Szczesny, but has looked far from solid and a report in the Daily Mail now claims he is eyeing up experienced replacements.

Szczesny is now back in training and is expected return to the starting XI for the crucial clash with local rivals Tottenham Hotspur next Saturday, however the report claims Wenger is ready to recruit a possible replacement for the Pole.

Reina has struggled for form with Liverpool so far this season, which has led to reports claiming Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is considering offloading the Spain international, though the 'keeper moved to deny this.

Meanwhile, the Mail’s report suggests Wenger may opt for a move for Vorm as it claims Arsenal have been watching the Dutchman extensively in recent months.

It also claims that the new ‘keeper will be brought in to challenge Szczesny directly for the number one spot, and will not be used as back-up.
