Cristiano Ronaldo will undergo tests at a clinic in the Spanish capital after sustaining a nasty gash above his left eye in Real Madrid's 2-1 La Liga victory over Levante last night.

The Portuguese forward was caught by David Navarro's elbow in the opening minutes of the match in Valencia, and after being patched up on the side of the pitch, he returned to the fray to score Real's 21st-minute opener.

As a precaution, Ronaldo was replaced by Raul Albiol at the interval, after club doctors said his vision in both eyes were affected by the blow, which had left one side of the 27-year-old's face completely covered with blood.

He is now a major doubt for Portugal's friendly against Gabon on Wednesday, with Paulo Bento's squad set to reconvene later today.

Jose Mourinho was happy to come away from Levante relatively unscathed, and it was the first time that Real Madrid have beaten them since he arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2010.

"It was a difficult match for everyone," explained the coach in his post-match press conference. "We adapted to the conditions and it was an honest battle between serious people who gave everything in search of a result.

"The team had to draw on all its character and strength and we were deserved winners. I had never won here and they are three extremely important points."
