Leandro Damiao has dealt Tottenham Hotspur a transfer blow after admitting he ‘dreams’ of signing for Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs in the past, although the north London outfit were unwilling to meet the £14 million demanded by Internacional two summers ago.
TalkSPORT claims Andre Villas-Boas was ready to revive the club’s interest in the January transfer window, but it appears the 14-cap international now has his heart set on a move to the Spanish capital.
"Now is not the moment to be thinking of playing in Europe. I just want to continue improving and scoring goals," he told UOL, according to the radio station.
"However, every footballer dreams of playing at a club such as Real Madrid but I'm only 23 and there is plenty of time to take that step forward. I have a contract and I love it here and don't feel the need to move away right now. Even so, it's obvious that the day will come when I will leave Brazil to go and play in Europe."
Tottenham Hotspur already have a strong Brazilian connection at White Hart Lane, with goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes and defensive midfielder Sandro already plying their trade at the club.
Shaktar Donetsk playmaker Willian has also been linked with a move to Spurs, admitting last month that the club made an offer for his services in the summer.
And, with Damiao now setting his sights on the Santiago Bernabeu, Villas-Boas may well have to set his transfer sights elsewhere.
