Long-term Manchester United target Wesley Sneijder could soon leave Inter Milan – with Anzhi Makachkala ready to make a move, according to reports.
The 28-year-old Dutch international is reportedly wanted by the Russian club when the January transfer window opens.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the former Ajax playmaker in the past but reportedly baulked at his wage demands back in 2010.
The Red Devils have yet to find a true replacement for Paul Scholes, who made a return from retirement last season.
The Manchester United legend is set to step away from the game once more come the end of the season, and while there are high hopes for Nick Powell at Old Trafford, he has only featured in one Premier League game this season and is not yet considered ready to take over in such an important role just yet.
Sir Alex Ferguson appears to have moved on from targeting Sneijder, and now Anzhi are said to be keen on adding him to their squad.
Sniejder, who signed a contract extension until 2015 earlier this year, is believed to be unhappy at Inter and according to his wife was recently banned from Twitter by his club as he continues his recovery from injury.
Despite claims made by Inter manager Andrea Stramaccioni that he wants Sneijder to remain at the San Siro, Tuttosport report today that the Italian club are willing to sell him to the highest bidder as they continue the overhaul of their squad.
And according to TalkSport, it is Anzhi who are prepared to cough up £25 million for his services, and make him one of the club’s highest earners alongside ex-Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o.
If Sneijder does leave Italy this season a move for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Willian could be on the cards. The Brazilian has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City interested, but TuttoSport say Inter see him as the man to replace Snejider.
