England starlet defends Messi and Ronaldo comments
Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo news: Wilfried Zaha defends comments
England starlet Wilfried Zaha has moved to defend comments he made which appear to suggest the Crystal Palace youngster sees himself in a similar bracket to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Zaha exuded confidence in a first major newspaper interview ahead of his England debut, but has immediately had his fingers burned by accusations of mis-placed arrogance following his remarks on Messi and Ronaldo.
"Unless I’m looking at Ronaldo or Messi, I’d never look at someone else and think he’s better than me," Zaha boldly told the Daily Mail.
It was quite a proclamation by a player yet to so much as play a single match in the Premier League, although the 20-year-old has been receiving rave reviews for his performances for Palace in the Championship.
Zaha, however, believes his Messi and Ronaldo statement has been taken out of context, and claims he was not attempting to be big-headed during his interview.
"My words were absolutely twisted and taken the wrong way in my last interview," Zaha posted on Twitter.
"But I will learn from this and explain in further detail what I mean when I make certain statements."
Zaha, meanwhile, is on course to achieve his Premier League ambition as Crystal Palace lead the race for promotion, but the winger has also been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.
The Ivory Coast-born youngster could even be granted the chance to display his credentials alongside former Manchester United star Ronaldo, with a move to Real Madrid also touted as a possibility for Zaha.
