Manchester City are on a collision course with bitter rivals Manchester United over the signing of Italian starlet Domenico Berardi.

Etihad Stadium boss Roberto Mancini has ordered the club to do what they can to move ahead of his opposite number at Old Traffortd, Sir Alex Ferguson, according to talkSPORT.

The 18-year-old has been impressing for Sassuolo in Serie B this season, so much so that both Manchester City and Manchester United have both been credited with an interest in signing him.

However, the report claims the Premier League pair will be joined by Serie A giants AS Roma and Juventus if a bid is made for Berardi and the possibility of a transfer materialises.

Ferguson already lost out to Juventus once for a promising youngster this year, when Paul Pogba opted to move to the Italian champions rather than sign a new deal at Old Trafford, so he is unlikely to be in any mood to accept cross-city rival Mancini doing the same.

Berardi has scored three goals in ten Serie B games for Sassuolo, who are leading the league and are currently prime candidates for promotion to Italy’s top flight next season.
