African striker 'has to' join Liverpool, says ex-Manchester United star
Liverpool transfer news: Ex-Manchester United winger tells
Former Manchester United winger Andrei Kanchelskis has urged Anzhi Makhachkala star Lacina Traore to join Liverpool, should the Anfield club formalise their reported interest in the striker.
Traore scored the winner Anzhi met Liverpool in the Europa League last week, and has since been linked with a move to Anfield during the January transfer window.
Liverpool are in desperate need of goalscoring reinforcements in the New Year, with Luis Suarez currently the only fit senior striker available to Reds manager Brendan Rodgers.
Traore could provide Liverpool with extra potency they crave, with the 22-year-old having found the seven times in 11 Russian league matches for Anzhi so far this season.
Kanchelskis, who currently manages Russian outfit FC Ufa, certainly seems to think Traore can have an impact at Liverpool and says the young forward has the ability to be a hit on Merseyside.
"Traore has all the attributes, height, technique, speed, in order to start playing in England," the former Russia international, who also played for Everton, told Izvestia.
"For Liverpool, he would be a good buy, especially given the current state of affairs in the team."
Kanchelskis, who made over 100 appearances for Manchester United during four years playing under Sir Alex Ferguson, also believes Traore shouldn't think twice about leaving Anzhi, should Liverpool come in for his signature.
"In any case, if he receives offers from Premier League teams and especially from Liverpool, he has to go," added the former Old Trafford favourite.
"In spite of the last games of Anzhi, we should not compare these clubs, as it is not necessary to compare the level of the championship.
"How much have Liverpool won in their history? And how much have Anzhi won? Let's not talk about it, it's ridiculous."
