Chelsea & Tottenham set €35m Brazilian playmaker price

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur target Willian will only be sold for €35 million, according to Shaktar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu.

The 67-year-old is desperate to keep his Brazilian playmaker in the Ukraine, as the domestic champions look to challenge for success in Europe.

Spurs and the Blues aren’t the only clubs interested in the 24-year-old however, with Serie ‘A’ giants Inter Milan also keen on the player. All three clubs now know what they will have to pay to secure Willian’s signature.

"If [Inter president Massimo] Moratti asks me about Willian, I will tell him that Shakhtar want to achieve things in Europe and will not sell their players. There's the buy-out clause, though, which is €35 million (£28m) for Willian," Lucescu told Tuttosport, according to talkSPORT.

"Chelsea paid €31m (£25m) for Oscar this summer. The difference between Willian and Oscar is that Willian is much more mature, and already has plenty of Champions League experience and has played in a strong European league for years.

"Chelsea wanted to sign Willian this summer for €20m (£16m), but we turned them down. They went for Eden Hazard for over €30m (£24m) instead. The fact remains that we do not want to sell him."

Roberto Di Matteo has seen first-hand the damage Willian can do this season, scoring twice against Chelsea in their Champions League Group E clash at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas is a known admirer of the player, but failed to bring him to White Hart Lane in the final days of the summer transfer window.

In October, the ex-Blues boss admitted Willian is ‘an extremely good player’, but denied that he’d already thought about a bid to bring him to White Hart Lane.

Villas-Boas’ comments came days after the player admitted he was a friend of the Spurs boss, and that Tottenham Hotspur was a big club.

However, the huge price-tag might be difficult for Spurs to stomach, as Willian would become the club-record signing by some distance at his current price.
