Patrce Evra believes Manchester City will always be an inferior club to Manchester United, no matter how many trophies they win.

United were pipped to the title in dramatic fashion by their cross-city rivals last term, and both teams, along with Chelsea, are expected to contest the league crown this time round.

Evra was part that squad who thought they had the title won with victory at Sunderland only to see Manchester City snatch a last-gasp win against QPR on the final day of the season.

Despite that, the Frenchman insists Roberto Mancini’s side cannot compete with the history and titles won by the Old Trafford club in recent years.

“I don't know if we could talk about rivalry between both Manchester clubs because we have always been superior to Manchester City,” he told reporters.

"And even if they won the national title last season, that won't change anything."

Manchester United currently sit at the top of the table, two points clear of the Citizens with 11 games gone. Sir Alex Ferguson takes his team to the Etihad Stadium in little under a months time.

Before Evra can focus on helping Manchester United gain revenge on their rivals this season he faces a tough tie with France this evening when the take on Italy, who can call upon the services of City striker Mario Balotelli.

The 31-year-old was banned from playing for his country for his part in Les Blues’ 2010 World Cup fiasco, while he was an unused substitute at Euro 2012.

"Above all, I want to win a trophy with my country,” he admitted. “Terminating my career without a trophy with the national team would be a failure to me."
