Zlatan Ibrahimovic finally put the myth that he couldn’t perform against England and English sides to bed last night with a stunning four goal performance to help Sweden down the Three Lions 4-2 in Stockholm.

In a fixture designed to celebrate the opening of the Friends Arena it wasn’t the most hospitable of welcomes from the enigmatic PSG striker, who bagged a hat-trick before putting the icing on the cake in the most stunning style imaginable.

England shotstopper Joe Hart hardly covered himself in glory after punching the ball lazily clear of his area, but from that moment on, it was all about Ibrahimovic’s genius.

With Hart in no man’s land and unable to get back to his line after his punch, the 31-year-old spied his chance and didn’t miss a beat as he sent a 25-yard overhead kick spiraling into the air and over the line. A truly magical moment from a player who sometimes frustrates, but never fails to entertain.

Before Ibrahimovic stole the show England looked on course for a victory to mark Steven Gerrard’s 100th international cap.

Although England’s nemesis had put Sweden in the lead, two quick-fire efforts from Danny Welbeck and debutant Steven Caulker had put England in the driving seat.

In the end though there was little talk about Gerrard’s landmark appearance, Caulker’s debut goal or youngster’s Wilfried Zaha’s late appearance. Instead the spotlight was entirely focused on Ibrahimovic.

It was ‘probably the best goal I have seen live,’ Gerrard said after the game. Sit back and enjoy the imperious Ibrahimovic at his finest.
