Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has revealed his desire to follow in Sir Alex Ferguson’s footsteps and become manager at Old Trafford.
The former United captain is one of the most legendary characters of the Premier League era and is held in the highest regard by Red Devils’ fans.
Now the Frenchman has spoken of his time with Manchester United in an interview with ESPN, which is centred on his new role in the attempt to resurrect classic franchise New York Cosmos.
In the interview he reveals his admiration for his old manager at Manchester United and claimed he would like to see Ferguson going leading the Old Trafford side indefinitely.
“Alex Ferguson is young, has so much energy, so much love of the game, so many things to give, more and more and more,” said Cantona.
“And I love to watch them winning things and I want Ferguson to be manager forever.”
Cantona was also asked if he would consider taking up the United hotseat if Ferguson decided against his advice to stay on “forever” and steps down.
He responded in an elaborate and bizarre fashion, which is often his wont.
“I would say, ‘United is special, of course I would do it’. Today I’m with the New York Cosmos,” he added.
“But if one day there is an opportunity, why not? Like diving from here to the sea, watching, speaking to the fish, octopus, crabs, journalists.”
Ferguson doesn’t look like stepping down any time soon, so Cantona appears to have time to develop his role at Cosmos.
In fact, he looks to have put together another brilliant Manchester United team and they are flying high at the top of the Premier League, playing some of the most attractive attacking football that has been seen for a while.
