Raheem Sterling will become better than Arsenal duo Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain within a year.

That is the view of former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp after seeing the 17-year-old Anfield star make his England debut on Wednesday night.

Redknapp was speaking in his Daily Mail column when he made the claim that Sterling’s gifts would inevitably lead to Liverpool’s new star overtaking the speedy Arsenal pair, whom are currently occupying two of the regular wide spots in the England squad.

“Raheem Sterling of Liverpool was impressive. I can see him overtaking Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott within a year,” said the television pundit.

“He has quick feet, tiny steps and explosive pace. But he is intelligent and strong and demands the ball. He will only get better.”

Sterling played the majority of Wednesday’s international friendly defeat to Sweden, where the Three Lions were treated to a Zlatan Ibrahimovic master class – the PSG striker scored all four in the host’s 4-2 win, including a contender for the greatest goal ever.

Danny Welbeck and, another debutant, Spurs’ defender Steven Caulker scored England’s goals to give them a half-time lead.

Arsenal pair Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain were both missing from the fixture due to injury worries and, in the eyes of Redknapp anyway, it appears Sterling has exploited his opportunity.
