Liverpool are planning a £5million move for highly rated Blackpool winger and reported Manchester United target Thomas Ince, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 20-year-old only left Anfield on a free transfer in August last year, because he was fed up at his lack of opportunities in the Reds first-team.

Ince has excelled at Bloomfield Road under the former stewardship of Ian Holloway, but after he left the Tangerines to join Championship leaders Crystal Palace last month, the England U21 international may look to follow Holloway out the exit door.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to do a deal for the son of former Liverpool midfielder Paul Ince, and is not worried by the fact that the youngster was allowed to leave Merseyside so recently, as it happened before his reign began.

If the Reds are able to secure his signature, they are also entitled to a discount, having previously agreed a 35 per cent sell-on-fee with Blackpool prior to his transfer there.

Liverpool will face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United, with Sir Alex Ferguson also credited with an interest in bringing Ince to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been monitoring The Seasiders ace for some time, but now the Mirror suggests that Liverpool are leading the race after sending top spy Frank McParland to watch Ince in action in the England U21 victory over Northern Ireland on Tuesday evening.
