Manchester United face Italian fight over South American starlet
Manchester United transfer news: Juan Fernando Quintero linked with Inter Milan and Juventus
Manchester United face a Serie ‘A’ transfer battle over Colombian starlet Juan Fernando Quintero.
The 19-year-old has been earning rave reviews at Pescara this season – on loan in Italy from Atletico Nacional in his homeland.
Quintero’s domestic form led to a first international call-up last month, and reports in Italy claim Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has sent scouts to watch the midfielder this season.
However, talkSPORT reports that Manchester United now face strong competition from some of the biggest clubs in Italian football for the player’s permanent signature, with Inter Milan and Juventus both ‘keeping tabs’ on his progress and eager to add the teenager.
Dubbed ‘the new promise’ in Colombia, Quintero would join a strong South American contingent at Old Trafford if he made the move to the Premier League.
Anderson, Rafael Da Silva, Antonio Valencia and Angelo Henriquez all ply their trade at Manchester United, a potentially crucial factor when trying to persuade the player over a permanent move away from home.
Reports last week that the player fainted during training would be a potential concern, although Manchester United would certainly not cut corners the time came for a club medical.
