Adam Morgan hopes he can help save Brendan Rodgers the hassle of spending big-money on a new striker, but admits the fan in him wants to see Liverpool splash the cash this January, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The 18-year-old has made three appearances for the Reds in the Europa League this season - including starts against Hearts and Anzhi Makhachkala - after successfully making the step up from the Melwood Academy into the first-team.

Rodgers has predicted a bright Liverpool future for the Halewood-born youngster over the coming years, but is conscious not to rush him as he continues his early development.

Morgan is yet to feature in the Premier League this season, but with the club's forward options severely limited because of a growing injury list, he could be named amongst the substitutes for the clash against Wigan Athletic at Anfield on Saturday, after netting twice for the youth team in the 4-1 NextGen series victory over Rosenborg earlier this week.

Now the talented teenager wants to show his manager he doesn't need to delve into the transfer market in the New Year, but as a lifelong Liverpool fan, concedes that another marquee signing would be exciting in the forthcoming transfer window.

"In a selfish kind of way, I hope they don't bring in a striker," explained the teenager. "But as a fan, you want to see one come in and improve the team!"
