Manchester United are reportedly tracking AS Roma star Erik Lamela after a blistering start to the Serie A season.
The Argentinean was an extremely highly-rated teenage in his native country with River Plate, which earned him the move to the Italian club and now Sir Alex Ferguson has taken note of his improved numbers, according to Calciomercato.com.
The report claims Ferguson has told Manchester United officials to prepare a bid for the 20-year-old next summer.
Lamela’s first season in Serie A was promising, but he could only manager four league goals; this season he has already doubled that in just 11 games and is looking far more potent going forward.
Manchester United’s interest may have been piqued by this improvement in form, as Lamela’s talent has never been in question, and the report suggests the Old Trafford club see him as perfect for a move to the Premier League.
Lamela only has a solitary cap for the Argentinean national team, though the depth they have in attack means this is no great surprise.
The report also claims Roma turned down a €15million bid last summer for him.
