Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League table following their emphatic 5-0 thrashing of Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

Two goals each from Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero added to David Silva's opener, extending the champions' unbeaten home run to 36 games.

The Citizens usurped local rivals Manchester United who were beaten 1-0 by Norwich City, with the Canaries stretching their unbeaten run to five games following Anthony Pilkington's second-half header, giving them a shock success at Carrow Road.

The north London derby saw Arsenal record a 5-2 victory against ten-man Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium, after Emmanuel Adebayor was sent off soon after giving the visitors the lead.

West Brom beat Chelsea 2-1 at The Hawthorns to continue Steve Clarke's impressive start to life as a Premier League manager, while Reading picked up their first three points of the season with a 2-1 home victory against Everton.

Luis Suarez maintained his impressive form with another brace to give Liverpool a 3-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at Anfield, and Swansea City climbed into the top half of table with a 2-1 success over Newcastle United at St James' Park.

And finally, Southampton prevailed in the battle of the basement boys, with a 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road. Goals from Rickie Lambert, Jason Puncheon and an Anton Ferdinand own goal meant that Mark Hughes' side remain winless, and rock-bottom of the table.
