Liverpool ready to hijack £8m Chelsea striker deal
Liverpool & Chelsea transfer news: Wilfried Bony linked with Premier League move
Liverpool are being linked with a January move for highly-rated Chelsea striker target Wilfried Bony.
The 23-year-old Ivorian international – who had a trial at Liverpool five years ago – has been in fine form this season, and is the current Eredivisie top scorer on 14-goals for Vitesse Arnhem.
His goalscoring run has alerted Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo over a potential move, and the 13-cap former Issia Wazi starlet was more than happy to talk-up the possibility of an £8 million switch to west London last week.
"It's not the number one topic for me at the moment, but if they write about me going there, then it's great isn't it? But seriously, if they want me, it would be a great honour. I would be glad to go to such a club,” he told Czech paper Pravo, according to The Daily Mail.
“I love English football and wouldn't be afraid to play there. Chelsea are a top club.
“If Chelsea are interested in the winter and the clubs reach an agreement, then why not? We'll see what happens. At the moment I want to be playing as well as I can for Vitesse.”
However, reports in The Sunday People now claim that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to ‘hijak’ the Blues’ pursuit of the player, with two strikers on the Anfield wish list during the January transfer window in an effort to provide support for Luis Suarez.
Italian international Giuseppe Rossi is also reported to be on the Liverpool radar, with England international winger Stewart Downing potentially making way to free-up transfer funds for some big-money moves in the first month of the New Year.
