Chelsea & Manchester City stars on FIFPro World XI shortlist
Chelsea and Manchester City news: Joe Hart and Petr Cech nominated for FIFPro World Goalkeeper of the Year
The Chelsea and City pair made the five-man goalkeeping shortlist alongside Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, Real Madrid's Iker Casillas and Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer.
One will be chosen during the FIFA Ballon d'Or Gala on Monday 7 January 2013 as the FIFPro World XI goalkeeper.
FIFPro is the world footballer's professional union, and players from around the world vote for who they believe have been the standout players over the previous year.
Manchester City's Joe Hart makes the list for the first time in his short professional career, after helping City to their first league title in 44 years.
The former-Shrewsbury Town stopper enjoyed a superb 2012, and established himself as England number one after his impressive performances for City, although Roy Hodgson's side endured a difficult Euro 2012 tournament.
Chelsea keeper Petr Cech has received his sixth nomination, but the Stamford Bridge stopper is yet to win the award.
Unfortunately for the Chelsea and Manchester City pairing, Gianluigi Buffon and Iker Casillas have dominated the award - one of the two star goalkeepers has won each year for the past six seasons.
Real Madrid and Spain star Iker Casillas enjoyed another fantastic year, winning La Liga with Madrid and another European championship with Spain. The Spaniard has won a place in the World XI for the past four years, and is one of the favourites against this term.
Buffon won the award in 2006 and 2007, and helped Italy reach the Euro 2012 final so he's likely to be a major contender.
Over 45,000 voting slips have been distributed to professional clubs around the world, which are to be handed to players to cast their ballots, before the presentation ceremony in the New Year.
