Tottenham could recieve a timely injury boost ahead of their Europa League showdown against Lazio on Thursday after it was revealed Steven Caulker is winning his race to be fit in time to face the Rome-based club.

Caulker has established himself as one of Andre Villas-Boas' first-choice centre-halves this season, but was forced to miss the north London derby after picking up a knee problem while away on international duty with England.

The talented youngster is believed to have travelled with Tottenham to Italy today ahead of the clash tomorrow, and will be assessed before the game to see if he is ready to start.

Andre Villas-Boas is likely to field a strong team as he goes in pursuit of qualification to the next stage of the Europea League, something he has maintained has been a priority since the start of the season.

The game against Lazio is likely to go a long way to deciding Tottenham's Europa League fate. Spurs picked up their first win in European competition this season with a 3-1 win over Maribor two weeks ago to move them up to second in Group J, two points behind Lazio who lead the group on eight points.

Spurs could only register a 0-0 draw against Lazio when they met at White Hart Lane earlier this season in game that was blighted by racist chants from the travelling Italian support.

Lazio were fined £32,500 by UEFA for the incident, although their punishment is likely to be a lot heavier if they repeat the offence on Thursday.
