Chelsea star Juan Mata says former Barcelona manager - and reported Blues target - Pep Guardiola would be a 'great coach' for whatever team he decides to join following his sabbatical.

Guardiola left Barcelona at the end of last season in order to spend more time with his family, and has since been linked with a return to management in the summer with Chelsea.

Roberto di Matteo was sacked as Chelsea boss on Wednesday following defeat to Juventus in the Champions League, and has been replaced buy former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez until the end of the season.

But Guardiola has been touted as a possible long-term successor to Di Matteo at Stamford Bridge, and the Barcelona legend was recently reported to be interested in taking over Chelsea during the summer.

Mata, meanwhile, would be one of the main draws for Guardiola were he to join Chelsea, given the young Spaniard's ability to execute the slick Barcelona inspired tiki-taka style.

And the young Spaniard believes Guardiola will be an instant success, whether he decides to join Chelsea or not.

"Guardiola is a great coach who knows all the players" Mata told the GQ magazine. "I think that he would be a great coach for any team. "
