Liverpool target £12m Chelsea forward

Liverpool are once again being linked with a move for Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge.

The Daily Mail claims Reds chief Brendan Rodgers has set his sights on the 23-year-old England international, as well as Blackpool starlet Thomas Ince, after Arsenal held firm over winger Theo Walcott.

Sturridge has found opportunities hard to come by at Chelsea this season, with Roberto Di Matteo favouring out-of-form Spanish star Fernando Torres during his reign in west London.

Despite the manager’s departure from Stamford Bridge on Wednesday morning, the signs are still not positive for Sturridge, with Rafael Benitez – a firm Torres favourite – being appointed ‘interim’ Chelsea manager the same evening.

It’s unclear how much control the ex-Liverpool boss will have with regards to transfer activity at his new club, but one of his first decisions will appear to be over the future of Sturridge.

Rodgers has been linked with a number of strikers - including Jackson Martinez and Wilfried Bony - in recent week, with the Liverpool chief eager to provide some support for Luis Suarez on Merseyside.

The Uruguayan international is the only senior attacker currently fit and available for the Reds, with Fabio Borini injured and Andy Carroll loaned out of Anfield. Sturridge could be the man for a reported £12 million.
