Paris St Germain sparked a Twitter storm today when they tweeted Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole will join the French club in the summer, only to then delete the tweet minutes later, according to the Daily Mirror.
The club's official account tweeted at Saturday lunchtime that, "Angleterre Ashley Cole arriver gauche sera un joueur Rouge et Bleu cet été", which translates as "England left back Ashley Cole will be a player this summer Red and Blue."
The Daily Mirror report that the account may have been hacked, but it remains a possibility that it could have been a genuine mistake on the part of the PSG media team.
New Chelsea interim boss Rafa Benitez revealed on Friday that Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole could leave the Stamford Bridge side in the summer.
Both England internationals have contracts that expire at the end of the season, and the pair have been linked with moves away from the European champions.
The report claims Cole has been a long-term target for the big-spending French club, and PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti knows the England left-back well from his time at Stamford Bridge.
Benitez replaced Roberto Di Matteo earlier this week, and the Spaniard takes charge of Chelsea for the first time on Sunday when the Blues host Manchester City.
Chelsea currently sit fourth, three points behind the league leaders and defending champions, but a victory over Roberto Mancini's side will propel them back towards the top of the table.
