Sprint legend switches camp from Ronaldo to Messi

It is a debate which splits offices, homes and families straight down the middle - but luckily enough sprint legend Usian Bolt has stepped into the mix to help you make your mind up over who is better, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bolt, who made history with his 100m and 200m gold medal haul in the 2012 London Olympics, has long been a vocal admirer of both Ronaldo and Messi in the past.

But speaking in August the Jamaican picked his side and opted to back Ronaldo as the best player in the world right now.

"No doubt Cristiano is better than Messi. He is a more complete player," Bolt told Portuguese channel RTP. "I would give [the Ballon d'Or] to Cristiano. He has managed to stay on top and that's the most difficult thing."

Well it now appears as though Bolt has changed his mind. Speaking after being named the Male Athlete of the Year at the annual IAAF Awards in Barcelona (perhaps the reason behind his flip-flop), the 26-year-old revealed that he was now backing Messi as the best player in the world.

"I've been twice in Madrid and treated me very well, I was a fan of them [Real Madrid]," he said.

"But I'm a fan of Argentina now, so that's why I'm a fan of Messi. Barça has the best chances of winning La Liga"

The speedy sprinter also ran through the respective strengths of the pair, and came to the conclusion that Messi just about comes out on top.

He joked: "Speed? Cristiano. Shot? Cristiano. Dribbling? Messi. Intelligence? Messi. Talent? Messi. Winner is Messi!"

The pair are the hot favourites to win the Ballon D'Or this season. Messi is gunning for a record 4th straight award, while Ronaldo is hoping to claim his second trophy.
