Petr Cech has warned his Chelsea team-mates they must adapt to life under new boss Rafa Benitez – or leave the club.

The Blues struggled to a 0-0 draw with reigning champions Manchester City in front of an agitated home crowd yesterday, a result that leaves them five points off the pace of Premier League leaders Manchester United.

Chelsea’s supporters made their feelings over Benitez’s appointment, announced last week after Champions League winning coach Roberto di Matteo was let go, clear during the game as they held up banners and booed the former Liverpool boss.

But Cech was stern in his assessment that Chelsea players cannot adopt a stance similar to the club’s fans, and must learn to work with Benitez despite their close relationship with Di Matteo.

‘You adapt or you're out. It's as simple as that,” he said.

"You're here to play, you're here to do what the club and manager wants you to do. If you don't like it, you can leave.

“If you stay sad and don't do the right things, you can end up on the bench and you're not playing and it will be even more disappointing.

"As a player, you need to do the right thing all the time," he added.

The veteran goalkeeper also insisted it was up to the players to help Benitez win over the Stamford Bridge faithful by putting in good performances and winning games.

"It is up to us to have a good run of results for them to change their minds,” he commented.

"The manager surely deserves to have a chance and it's up to us to make things happen and make the fans happy."
