Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho and Manchester City defender Maicon have been mocking the appointment of Rafael Benitez at Chelsea.

Mourinho and Maicon were reportedly joking with one another over the news of Benitez getting the job at Stamford Bridge after City’s 1-1 draw with the Spanish champions last week.

The two managers had a hostile relationship when Mourinho was at Chelsea and Benitez in charge of Liverpool, while Maicon played under the Portuguese during his treble-winning time with Inter Milan.

It appears the bad feeling between the two hasn’t dissipated over time, as can be gleaned from the 49-year-old Madrid manager’s reported comments.

"Your friend Benitez is going to Chelsea," the Brazilian said to Mourinho, according to La Sexta.

“The fat one? Well then Materazzi should be his assistant,” Mourinho is said to have responded.

The mention of Marco Materazzi is a reference to a story told by the Italian defender that said Benitez ordered him to take down newspaper clippings of victories under Mourinho and Marcelo Lippi from his locker.

The former Valencia boss was appointed interim manager at Chelsea following the sacking of Roberto di Matteo last week – a decision that brought much protest among Blues fans.
