Manchester United are once again being linked with a move for Porto sensation James Rodriguez.

The highly-rated 21-year-old – dubbed ‘the new Cristiano Ronaldo' in certain sections of the British media – was in fine form once again at the weekend, scoring the first for his side in a 2-0 win over Braga at the AXA Stadium.

Red Devils scouts were again in attendance to watch the Colombian international, according to ESPN, a common occurrence so far this season.

Reports in The Daily Mail earlier in the month claimed Sir Alex Ferguson had sent scouts to watch the player on seven separate occasions, despite a £36 million minimum fee release clause in his current contract at the Estadio do Dragao.

The same report claimed Luis Nani could be used a potential bargaining tool in negotiations, although it’s unclear if Portuguese winger is open to a Manchester United exit.

Either way, the Old Trafford outfit would have to part with substantial funds to bring Rodriguez to the club, with the former Banfield star continuing to build his reputation with the Primeira Liga champions.

Rodriguez would follow in the footsteps of Ronaldo if he swapped Portugal for the Premier League runners-up, whilst Anderson also completed the switch to Manchester United in 2007.
