Zlatan Ibrahimovic fails with latest bicycle-kick attempt
Zlatan Ibrahimovic fails to replicate his sensational bicycle-kick goal he scored for Sweden against England
Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has failed in his attempts to replicate the stunning bicycle-kick goal he scored in Sweden's 4-3 victory over England earlier this month.
The 31-year-old's acrobatic effort in last night's French League Cup quarter-final defeat to St. Etienne, left the charismatic forward with egg on his face, following an embarrassing air shot.
Despite his best efforts to make up for the error, Ibrahimovic received an unsavoury reception at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Tuesday evening, with scornful booing heard from the home fans, who are known for heckling opponents and giving them a hard time.
Yet it was hard to blame the towering Swede for PSG's failure to win, with Brazilian captain Thiago Silva guilty of missing the crucial spot-kick in a 5-3 penalty shootout defeat, after neither side could make the breakthrough after 120 minutes of football.
Even though the scoreline remained goalless, the game itself was not without incident. 17 minutes in and St Etienne's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's close-range header was cleared off the line by Clement Chantome.
Ezequiel Lavezzi managed to find the back of the net on the half hour mark after latching on to Ibrahimovic's pass, but the goal was chalked off for offside. Then later, an extra-time mix up between the same pair cost Ibrahimovic a chance at goal following an ill-judged back pass.
In the closing stages Carlo Ancelotti's side set siege on the St. Etienne goal, but goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier was at his best to keep Sylvain Armand's goal-bound shot at bay.
All in all, it was a night to forget for Ibrahimovic and Co. Check out the striker's comical bicycle-kick effort in the video above, and leave a comment with your thoughts below...
