Manchester United maintained their place at the top of the Premier League table this week following a 1-0 victory over West Ham United at Old Trafford, courtesy of a quick fire goal from Robin van Persie after just 32 seconds.

The Dutchman's deflected shot looped over the helpless Jussi Jaaskelainen, marking a nightmare start for the visitors. The Hammers did have opportunities to equalise through Andy Carroll, Carlton Cole and Modibo Maiga, but Sir Alex Ferguson's side held on to claim a nervy three points.

Hot on United's tails are reigning champions Manchester City, who recorded a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium. Mario Balotelli's first goal of the season opened the scoring after the break, and James Milner doubled the lead with a fine strike from outside the box, to keep City just one point behind the leaders.

Chelsea rose a place to third, but their unimpressive run of form continues following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Fulham at Stamford Bridge, leaving Rafa Benitez still searching for his first win and goal since taking over from Roberto Di Matteo last week.

The Blues are now six games without a win in the Premier League, while the Cottagers lie 11th in the table.

Meanwhile, Tottenham came out on top in a tightly-contested game to win 2-1 against Liverpool at White Hart Lane. First-half goals from Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale gave the hosts a comfortable lead, before the Reds hit back when Bale was helpless to prevent diverting the ball past Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal.

Jordan Henderson and Luis Suarez were both guilty of missing chances for Liverpool, who failed to get back on level terms, despite once again dominating possession.

Arsenal drew 1-1 with Everton at Goodison Park after Theo Walcott put Arsene Wenger's side ahead inside two minutes. However, the Gunners were soon pegged back after giving the ball away to Marouane Fellaini, who struck a sweet low left-footed drive past Wojciech Szczesny.

Swansea shocked West Brom with a 3-1 victory at the Liberty Stadium, thanks to first-half goals from Michu and two from Wayne Routledge. Romelu Lukaku pulled one back for the Baggies just before the break, but it turned out to be little more than a consolation.

Stoke City came from a goal down to win 2-1 against Newcastle United at the Britannia Stadium, after Papiss Cisse gave the Magpieson.com/video/xvghhu_robin-van-persie-amazing-goal-in-30-sec-amazing-goal-vs-west-ham-28-11-12_sport" target="_blank">Robin van Persie Amazing Goal IN 30 SEC AMAZING... by kofiswag
