Gareth Bale could follow former Tottenham teammate Luka Modric to Real Madrid as early as the January transfer window, it has been claimed.
Bale has frequently been linked with a transfer away from Spurs to Real Madrid, and Jose Mourinho is reported to have identified the Welsh winger as his top target for the summer.
However, according to the Daily Express, Real Madrid could now seek to reunite Bale with ex-Spurs colleague Modric in the New Year as Mourinho attempts to transform his club's faltering season.
Bale is reported to be ready to tell Tottenham that he wants to join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil at the Santiago Bernabeu, and does not want the north London club to stand in his way if Real Madrid come calling.
The 23-year-old has been in fine form of late, and a return of ten goals for club and country this season has seen speculation about his future as a Tottenham player increase further.
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas admitted on Wednesday night that he would struggle to keep Bale if a club like Real Madrid made an offer for the Welshman, and a formal approach would appear like it could soon become a reality.
