LA Galaxy admit they are 'honoured' to be linked with Chelsea star Frank Lampard, but insist they will go through the correct channels if they decide to pursue the veteran midfielder.

Lampard is out of contract at the end of the season, and interim Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez expects the 34-year-old to leave the club when his deal expires.

The Chelsea legend has been linked with moves to Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, while there interest from China has been reported, but speculation about a move to LA Galaxy has been far more frequent.

And Tim Liweke, CEO of Galaxy owners AEG, says he is proud that the MLS Cup finalists are being mentioned as a potential destination for Lampard as he time with Chelsea edges towards a conclusion.

"When you mention the likes of Frank Lampard to me, he's one of the class acts of football. I'm a huge fan of him as an individual, a huge fan of him as a captain and a huge fan of him as a player," Leiweke told Sky Sports News.

"We're honoured that anyone would even speculate that Frank would want to come here, that's a good day."

A move for Lampard could become more likely with David Beckham set to leave the Galaxy after Saturday's MLS Cup final, with the former Manchester United star's departure freeing up space for another designated player.

Galaxy, however, will not declare a public interest in Lampard until they are able to make an approach in January and, if they do, will make sure to speak to Chelsea first.

"FIFA rules indicate we're not allowed to talk to players until the last six months of contract and he's longer than six months," added Leiweke.

"We're not going to talk about Frank. Their league play and season goes all the way through to June. If we're going to have conversations we'll have them with Chelsea."
