Arsenal and Liverpool target Klass-Jan Huntelaar was booed by Schalke 04 fans at the weekend, as the uncertainty surrounding his future is blamed for a drop in form.
Schalke have not won for four games in the Bundesliga and the run of poor results have coincided with reports of a possible transfer to Emirates Stadium or Anfield.
The interest of Brendan Rodgers and Arsene Wenger comes after the 29-year-old scored an astonishing 48 goals last season for the German side.
However, Huntelaar’s contract expires at the end of the season and they have, as yet, been unable to agree new terms, which have fuelled the links with Liverpool and Arsenal.
Despite claiming not to have heard the jeers and boos, Huntelaar admitted his and his side’s form has not been good enough of late.
“I did not hear the whistles. But it is clear that people are not satisfied with how we've played,” he told German newspaper Bild.
Huntelaar’s continued failure to agree terms with Schalke appear to now be grating with the club’s general manager Horst Heldt, who was hinting that the striker may have lost focus with the uncertainty.
“For me as a player it was always important to have clarity,” he said.
Arsenal are in desperate need of some inspiration up front, which was highlighted in the dismal 2-0 loss at home to Swansea City on Saturday.
The Gunners fans were furious with the listless display as Wenger’s side put in as toothless a performance as they have doen for some time.
Meanwhile, the ramifications of Liverpool’s shortage of strikers will be seen next weekend, as star man Luis Suarez is suspended for the trip to West Ham.
