Former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp has likened West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame to a cross between Patrick Vieira and Yaya Toura, with the Reds being linked with a transfer swoop for the Hammers star.
Diame has impressed at Upton Park since his summer switch from Wigan, and played a prominent role in the 3-1 weekend victory against Chelsea.
West Ham are now reportedly fighting to keep hold of Diame, who has an escape clause in his contract meaning he could leave in the January transfer window, with a number of clubs pursuing the 25-year-old.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool - along with Merseyside rivals Everton - are two of the most high-profile clubs keen on Diame, with a fee of £6 million supposedly enough to trigger his release clause.
Diame's profile was enhanced even further on Monday when Redknapp, who played over 200 times for Liverpool during 12 seasons at Anfield, compared the Senegal international to two of the Premier League's all-time powerhouses.
According to Redknapp, Diame has a mixture of the best attributes of former Arsenal skipper Vieira and Manchester City star Toure, and West Ham will struggle to keep him.
"I like the look of Mohamed Diame at West Ham; he’s a cross between Patrick Vieira and Yaya Toure," the former Liverpool midfielder wrote in the Daily Mail.
"He overpowered Chelsea’s midfield on Saturday. Can West Ham keep him? He came on a free and has an agreed get-out clause. There will be lots of interest now."
