Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has singled out Newcastle United forward and Liverpool target, Demba Ba, as the answer to his striking problems at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have been struggling for form in recent weeks and this is partly down to a lack of cutting edge up front, with summer signing Olivier Giroud seemingly the only senior striker Wenger trusts to play in the role regularly.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the Senegal striker in the past as a possible solution to their own striking problems, with goals dangerously over reliant on star forward Luis Suarez

Now The Sun are reporting that Wenger has identified the Toon goal machine as his next target for January, especially with the option of purchasing him at a bargain price of £7.5million.

Ba has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave if a bid of that size comes in during the transfer window, which will worry Newcastle officials as they have so far failed to agree new terms with him that would eliminate the clause.

Ba should prove a shrewd investment for either Arsenal or Liverpool as he has regularly demonstrated an ability to find the net in the Premier League – he is currently joint top scorer with ten goals.

Wenger has been under pressure recently following three matches without a win in the league and scoring just one goal, which has left them in tenth place having suffered the poorest start to a season under Wenger’s reign.

He is expected to make a number of new signings in January and has admitted he has the funds to do so.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will witness the extent of his striker shortage next weekend, as Suarez is suspended for the trip to West Ham and the Anfield club’s showing at Upton Park will go a long way in helping him decide what action to take in January.
