Fernando Torres insists his move to Chelsea has not been a failure, and says he hopes to lead the line for the Blues for the rest of the season.

The Spaniard has struggled to produce his best form since moving from Liverpool to Stamford Bridge for £50 million in 2011, and has scored just 19 goals in 90 appearances for the Blues.

Torres started the 2012/13 campaign with 6 goals in 12 games for the club, but since then has found the net just once since the start of October.

Reports last month claimed that owner Roman Abramovich had grown tired of waiting for the Spanish striker to start producing the goods and would let him leave and replace him with Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao.

Despite his lack of form, the 28-year-old has still won winners medals in the FA Cup and the Champions League with Chelsea, while former club Liverpool have only won the League Cup since he left.

Torres believes that is a sure sign that he made the right decision to join Chelsea.

“One of the main reasons to come to Chelsea was that they are always aiming for trophies. I needed to win trophies because they are what you have after you have finished," he told reporters.

“In my first full season we won the FA Cup and Champions League, what more can you ask? We have a chance now to win the FIFA Club World Cup.

“I have four more years on my contract so hopefully I can win many more things — the Premier League would be amazing. The Capital One Cup and the Community Shield also.”

Torres has been handed the chance to be the focal point of Chelsea’s attacks after playing second fiddle to Didier Drogba last term following the Ivorian’s departure over the summer.

While rumours of Falcao’s arrival persist, Torres is confident of continuing to play up front on his own for the rest of the season.
