Former Manchester United star Edwin van der Sar has revealed he helped convince Robin van Persie to move to Old Trafford from Arsenal.
The Dutch striker controversially completed a switch from the Emirates Stadium outfit to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side in a £24million deal this summer, much to the dismay and anger of Emirates Stadium fans.
Van Persie was the Premier League’s Golden Boot winner last season as captain of Arsene Wenger’s side and he has picked up where he left off, already scoring ten goals in the league so far and 13 in all competitions.
Van der Sar, who won four Premier League titles and a Champions league in his time at United, has now revealed how he helped convince his compatriot decide to opt for Old Trafford when he had resolved to leave Arsenal.
Holland’s record appearance holder also claimed that Van Persie is loving his time at the Red Devils so far.
“He's really happy. He said he’s delighted with the choice he has made,” the 42-year-old said in an interview with elfvoetbal.nl – a Dutch football website.
“It is known that he talked with me before he made his decision; I told him how beautiful the club is. It has turned out so well he has scored ten times already – it’s fantastic.”
Manchester United fans have been relishing the form of Van Persie, as his goals kept them top of the table and now three points clear of rivals Manchester City.
Ferguson will also be pleased with his purchase as he is not only scoring regularly, he is beginning to develop a dangerous partnership with Old Trafford favourite Wayne Rooney.
