Jose Mourinho has hinted that he believes that the winner of the Ballon D’or has already been decided because of a secret campaign by football’s authorities to hand Lionel Messi the award over Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi is currently the overwhelming favourite to claim the award after his record breaking 2011/12 season, with his Barcelona team-mate Andres Iniesta and Ronaldo the other two contenders for the prize.
The Barcelona forward is on the cusp of creating history by becoming the first player to win the award four times, as well as becoming the first player to win it four times in a row.
Ronaldo has claimed the prize once, in 2008 while still with Manchester United, and Mourinho claims it is a conspiracy that the Real Madrid forward is destined to miss out once more.
"The Ballon d'Or has already been given,” He said after Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over Ajax.
"When the heads of football speak and make the campaign, there is nothing you can do."
Mourinho has been defiant in his belief that Ronaldo is the better player of the two in the past, once insisting that if Mess is the best player on the planet, then Ronaldo is the ‘best in the universe’.
“If you are going to give out the Ballon d'Or because a player is the best, give it to Cristiano or Messi,” he said in October. “But I ask: if the two are on the same level, is it normal that one wins four and the other one? It is not."
