Cristiano Ronaldo’s Olympic-esque sprint in the Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid derby has prompted a challenge to race from a champion Spanish sprinter.

Ronaldo was compared to Olympic sprint legend Usain Bolt after thundering 96 metres down the field for a counter-attack in just ten seconds, leading to many people claiming he would be of international athletics standards.

This has not gone down too well with one of Spain’s most prominent sprinters, Angel David Rodriguez, who used his Twitter account to challenge Ronaldo to a race over 100m “with or without spikes, tarmac or grass”.

Rodriguez currently holds the Spanish record over 100 metres and had previously been in a promotional video to test Cristiano Ronaldo’s speed against him over 25 metres, but it appears the talk of the Portugal captain being an Olympic sprinter has caused him to lay down the challenge.

It is unknown whether Ronaldo has even seen Rodriguez’s taunt, never mind ever agreeing to it.

So, in the absence of an actual race, some clever-clogs has put together a video comparing the two at full pelt.

It may not be terribly scientific, or accurate, but it gives viewers a little taste of how fast Ronaldo is actually going and what it might be like to have them go head-to-head.
