Manchester United lead race to sign Sneijder

Manchester United are in ‘pole position’ to sign Wesley Sneijder, according to reports.

Fenerbache have distanced themselves from a move for the player in January, with talkSPORT claiming that leaves Manchester United at the front of the queue to sign the Dutchman if they want to follow-up their interest.

"Our interest in Sneijder is zero. If we were interested, I wasn't aware of it," manager Aykut Kocaman told Radyspor.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for the 90-cap Dutch international in the past, with Sneijder close to joining last season’s Premier League runners-up in the summer of 2011.

Currently out-of-favour at the San Siro, the 28-year-old playmaker is involved in a pay dispute over his wages at Inter – reportedly £200,000-a-week – as the club look to cut-costs.

With Sneijder unwilling to take a large cut off his earning, the club have admitted they may be forced to sell one of their prized assets in the transfer window, according to the report.

If Sneijder were to join Manchester United, he’d bolster the attacking midfield ranks alongside summer signing Shinji Kagawa.

He’d also play alongside compatriots Robin Van Persie and Alex Buttner, who made the move to Old Trafford in the previous transfer window.
