Brazilian legend Ronaldinho has had his say on who is the best footballer in the world – and who might take the mythical crown in the future.
The Atletico Mineiro star enjoyed a couple of seasons alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona, and it’s the Argentine playmaker who the veteran believes is currently the best player in the world.
Ronaldinho was happy to heap praise on Cristiano Ronaldo too however, admitting that the Portuguese superstar has been making history at Real Madrid this season.
However, it’s Messi who gets the nod from the 32-year-old former Flamego star, who believes compatriot Neymar could one day over take both players to be the very best in the game.
"Cristiano has been making history for many years now, but Messi is the best in the world, and one day Neymar will be the best," Ronaldinho told ESPN.
"For me Messi is the best in the world. For the last few years he has played at a level of football we have never seen before. I'm very proud to speak of him, because I was there when he started off and now he is the best in the world, it makes me so happy.
"The game I remember the most is when he scored his first goal, because it came from my pass and I remember this game most vividly because he was just getting started. I had the chance to be there and live that moment. I'm very happy that his first professional goal came from a pass from me.
"Messi knows that there will always be a place in my heart for him,"
Neymar, a domestic star at Santos, has been earning rave reviews in South America, but without a move to Europe is unlikely to be held in the same regard as the La Liga pair.
