Cristiano Ronaldo is desperate to leave Real Madrid and will seek an exit at the end of the season, according to reports in Spain.
Marca claims Los Blancos president Florentino Perez will make a personal effort to try and convince the Portuguese winger to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, amidst reports that the superstar is unhappy in the Spanish capital.
Perez faces presidential elections at the end of the season, and knows losing Ronaldo – as well as manager Jose Mourinho’s potential exit – would be disastrous for his campaign.
The Spanish paper claims that the club were convinced Ronaldo and agent Jorge Mendes were hiding multi-million pound offers from either Paris Saint-Germain or Anzhi during a meeting on September 1st.
And, with the former Manchester United star unhappy about a perceived lack of support in the battle for individual awards against Barcelona rivals Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, Perez is now aware that the £80 million-man is unhappy with the current situation.
His first effort to patch-up the relationship will come in Zurich, when the 65-year-old travels to the FIFA Ballon d’Or gala on January 7th. Messi is the red-hot favourite to lift the trophy, however.
If their efforts to keep Ronaldo fail however, then The Daily Mirror claims the player would be open to a return to the Red Devils, as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to bring the Premier League title back to Old Trafford.
PSG and Russian giants Anzhi have financial power that can’t be matched by Manchester United however, and would therefore be the ‘obvious’ options, according to the report.
